Wrecked: AMX aka The AM / Ryan Smith / deep creep / Ron Like Hell

December 3, 2022

BASEMENT: AMX aka The AM / Ryan Smith
STUDIO: deep creep / Ron Like Hell

Wrecked invites AMX aka The AM aka Ann-Marie Teasley to headline for its last installation of 2022. She made a distinct impression this year, first with her debut “Black Majik” EP for none other than Tresor, and then with the followup “Sexworker” 12” for Deeptrax. Both revel in a shimmering, electro-infused sound which Teasley makes all her own. An affiliate of the SCAN7 collective and Ash Lauryn’s Underground & Black, AMX integrates her classical background and a spirit of playful futurism to her productions and sets. Ryan Smith joins her in BASEMENT. As always, Smith remains one of NY’s gems, and there’s nothing quite like seeing him on his home turf. His incredible knowledge of music and ear for unexpectedly perfect combinations make him one of the top selectors in town.

False Peak resident deep creep has had quite a year. An unavoidable presence in the NY landscape, deep creep’s sets are always a wild ride, with shearing percussion, liquid metal synths and advanced degrees of syncopation. UK lineages are woven with dank, modern techno and progressive house, with pockets of iridescent cheek and shattering emotional bloom. A headlining set at STUDIO will give plenty of time to express the full dynamism of her range. Ron Like Hell is a fellow traveler and perhaps a role model for the younger crews that deep creep runs with. His sets have never been confined by matters as pedestrian as genre, always reaching for tripper and more ecstatic heights. The not-so-secret ingredient is his unmistakably licentious feel for the groove, which threads through his most outré extrapolations.
