BASEMENT: Sharlese / Ron Like Hell
STUDIO: Midland / Ryan Smith
For its November edition, Wrecked invites Seattle’s Sharlese and UK mainstay Midland to headline BASEMENT and STUDIO, respectively. Seattle’s Sharlese is a major figure pushing coldwave/synthwave/industrial/goth hybrids in dance music. The KEXP residents and FALSE PROPHET co-founder is both an essential curator and an acclaimed DJ. Her sets perfect the darkly-churning energy of the ‘80s electronic underground, updating the sound with a cutting-edge techno sheen. She plays BASEMENT alongside Wrecked resident Ron Like Hell. Versatile yet unmistakable, Ron Like Hell’s slippery, grooving psychedelia has become a staple in NY.
In STUDIO, Midland takes the closing slot. The UK producer is one of the EU’s most vetted names, regularly appearing at essential clubs like Berghain, Robert Johnson, fabric and many others. Threading the needle between high profile visibility and the underground, Midland’s lush, variegated sound winds and curls through streamlined house, dusty breaks, chuggy headtrips and proper anthems. Ryan Smith joins him, and the match couldn’t be better. Smith’s mixes radiate with rich emotional resonance while maintaining a fluid trippiness. This one will be quite a journey.
