BASEMENT: Rrose / Zadig / Lychee
STUDIO: Mike Servito / PAÀL

Rrose returns to BASEMENT. The US-born, UK-based artist is one of the most respected in techno, bringing a level of craft and rigor to her music that few can match. Rooted as much in post-war spectral composition and psychoacoustic phenomena as techno, Rrose’s music unfurls with a sense of entrancing grandeur and awe-inspiring power. Working with precisely-calibrated tuning systems and a masterful sense of timing and restraint, Rrose casts a menacing and alluring spell, pulsating with erotic power and nail biting tension. Her BASEMENT debut in April was a triumph, pushing her trademark sound to its most high-energy iteration. Zadig joins from Paris. The Construct Re-Form boss splits his time between his own expansive productions and the similarly-finded label curation. His take on techno breathes with a deeply-rooted psychedelic grace. 2021’s “Silent Warrior” finds him in peak form, its interlocking lines braiding into Escher-esque paradoxes of countermovement. Lychee opens the night up. The NY mainstay has a versatility and a sense of nasty deviance that makes any room come alive. Their sets ooze, groove and throttle; Lychee is one to watch for in 2022.

When Mike Servito gets behind the decks, you know it. The Detroit-schooled artist is a pillar of the NY community, bridging an essential cold-as-hell Midwest jacking sensibility with a bold, East Coast techno modernism. The Bunker NY resident is one of the most respected DJs in the country and has earned every ounce of it. Active for over 20 years, his steady rise has been matched by an ever-deepening devotion to his craft: a quick look at his travel schedule shows an artist who maintains strong ties to the underground while simultaneously performing headlining sets for an international audience. German DJ Paàl embodies a boundless rave energy. The Voitax founder is known for his sharp, adventurous productions and his cross pollinated DJ sets. Whether curating Voitax or selecting records to mix, his ranging tastes and love of rhythmic interplay draw commonalities across idioms, from skincrawl loop techno to banging hardcore, rugged old school workouts and breaks-laden sunbursts.
