BASEMENT: Héctor Oaks / Stef Mendesidis / LYDO
STUDIO: NDRX / Daria Kolosova
Héctor Oaks is back at BASEMENT, following a standout set this spring and a barn-burner Friday closing at Wire Festival. Oaks’ name commands instant respect. His all-vinyl sets seethe with undeniable nerve, giving the audience a rush of galloping rhythms and cheese-grater sharp percussion. Raw, organic and yet witheringly precise; once you see his mohawk, it’s already too late. Stef Mendesidis has made his name with a similarly gritty sound. His productions for buy-on-sight labels like Klockworks are defined by their spontaneity and forward momentum. His extended DJ sets incorporate aspects of live performance, with his own studio workouts woven amongst his unspooling 4-deck blends. For this night, he’s going all the way and bringing out a full hardware set. Lydo brings their unmistakable cool to the booth. The BASEMENT regular has come to define their space in the NY community as one of the most consistent techno DJs, bringing an unhurried impact and honed sense of timing.
STUDIO matches the energy with an unstoppable pair: NDRX and Daria Kolosova take over. Bassiani resident NDRX is one of Georgia’s most notable talents. His darkly-grooving techno brings a twitchy paranoia and an unmistakable urgency to the fore, while his pacing makes his booking an unmissable event. Kolosova is a multidimensional artist, but once the energy is flowing it’s all over. Her up-tempo techno glides and lunges with a thrilling determination.
