BASEMENT: Ancient Methods / Phase Fatale / Chloe Lula
STUDIO: Chris Cruse / Partok

It’s a night of industrial strength techno: Ancient Methods plays alongside Phase Fatale and Chloe Lula. All three are renowned for their gritty, unyielding approach. Ancient Methods has been a leading light at the vanguard of techno for years, starting with his very first EPs. From the beginning, Ancient Methods has brought a personal vision of techno as a vehicle for molten, elemental power and a near-ritualistic, even mythic aesthetic. He’s joined by Phase Fatale, whose fusion of massive, warehouse-ready sonics with EBM’s deviant catchiness has rightfully earned him countless accolades. The Berghain resident and BITE label founder is a ruthless talent, whether solo or in collaboration with luminaries like Silent Servant or Terence Fixmer. His work has landed him everywhere from Ostgut Ton to Jealous God, blending blistering noise and tough-as-nails techno with a subtle but unmissable ear for hooks. Chloe Lula completes the lineup. The SF-born, Berlin-based artist rides a more classical line, with seething atmospheres and dark, claustrophobic textures coalescing over a heavy four-on-the-floor kick. With releases on aufnahme + wiedergabe and time spent studying with Drew McDowell, Lula represents the latest wave of lurid and impactful techno hybridification.

Chris Cruse lands at the club for the first time. He’s the founder of Spotlight, one of LA’s leading queer parties and a regular at Panorama Bar, Snax, Cocktail d’Amore and many more. His style revels in complete unabashedness, with bright, explosive sonics that recall the hedonism and bold, declarative aesthetics of the ‘80s while drawing lines across decades. The spirit of orgiastic liberation is strong with this one. Partok returns for another round. The Israeli DJ was a resident at The Block, the celebrated club known for its immaculate soundsystem. You can hear the influence in Partok’s playing, which exudes a dynamism and punch that’s on another level. Whether playing techno or house, his expertise and exacting control is beyond reproach.
