BASEMENT: Henning Baer / Ron Like Hell / Lychee
STUDIO: Eli Escobar / Kim Anh / Natuta
Henning Baer is a name synonymous with Berlin techno. The Grounded Theory founder and resident is a paragon of the driving, gritty and single-minded sound associated with his hometown. His events began as a proper cultural incursion and have evolved in a benchmark of quality, while his productions remain ever vital. Whether going in for the full-banger treatment or exploring more ominous atmospherics, Baer brings a rare focus and tightly wound intensity to his music. Ron Like Hell is perhaps best known for his tripping, spiraling pan-genre DJ sets, but he can rip a techno set as well as anyone. Across a recent run of BASEMENT appearances for Wrecked, Ron’s brought a fearsome energy to the room without sacrificing an ounce of the dynamism and range that has made him a NY hero. Lychee completes the bill. One of the class of ‘22s finest, Lychee continues their creative flourishing in 2023. Specializing in oozing techno mixed with plenty of creative flair, Lychee’s staunch dedication to the dancefloor shows in everything they do.
Eli Escobar is one of NY’s finest house music DJs, period. The Tiki Disco resident has been honing his craft for decades, working with a consistency and relentless dedication. True to his party’s name, Escobar brings a throbbing disco intensity to his sets, driving the dancefloor with rock-solid grooves and a flair for the dramatic. Escobar doesn't fool around: when he steps on, it’s all over. LA’s Kim Anh taps into a classic, sultry club glamor. On tracks like “After Dark” and “Shadows,” she evokes nocturnal desire and a steely poise that’s immediately arresting. Her DJ sets pull from the deep well of the ‘80s (and beyond), with industrial, disco, boogie and electro vinyl rarities bursting at the seams. Natuta’s cross-continental journey has brought her in touch with a global underground. She’s one of the founders of Eau De Cologne, the queer party series that has become one of Tbilisi’s hubs for liberatory hedonism. Natuta’s sets embrace a thick, breathy energy - proximal, sweaty and urgent.
