BASEMENT: quest?onmarq / 1morning / Muerte Lenta / Word of Command / DJ Clone
STUDIO: Miss Twink USA / Jek / deep creep
FIST returns to BASEMENT. The queer party takes pride in driving the energy through the roof. Sonic sorceress quest?onmarq joins a wild lineup. Seeking “the spiral effect,” quest?onmarq has been turning heads for her fiendish and overwhelming approach to DJing. A true sonic weaver, her sets slam, drift and pop with dark intensity. 1morning returns from LA, bringing the gripping, euphoric techno energy with him. Last years’ “Transitions” saw the producer cementing his reputation as a techno producer to watch. But his more recent “Return to Phunk” shows an artist in full bloom, with three warm, striding tracks that radiate energy and purpose. NY’s Muerta Lenta settles for nothing less than a fever pitch. The industrial-techno hybridist comes in swinging, as evidenced by a recent mix for FIST filled with claustrophobic acid, thunderous kick drums and an unhinged tone that sits just right with the party’s ethos. FIST residents Word of Command and DJ Clone have a special touch: heaving but nimble and completely sick, the pair have a knack for keeping the energy fresh even when keeping their feet 100% on the gas.
Miss Twink USA plays STUDIO. The Chicago DJ is a member of Ariel Zetina’s Rumors crew and represents their hometown with a flash of old school mixed in with their shimmery, modern textures. You can really hear it in the drums, which betray a deep affinity for the classic Chicago jacking sound. Jek returns to the room. You know the drill: flawless, tripping rollers with plenty of bounce per ounce. A regular in both rooms at the club, Jek always brings a touch of the submersive while keeping the energy percolating. deep creep has become one of NY’s major figures. The False Peak resident and Pi Pi Pi curator has been a major force pushing NY music into more adventurous terrain. A deep creep set can cover the balmy or extremely heavy, the cheeky or deadly. Her signature zone is an epically grooving pocket, with moody colorful rhythms harnessed with masterful control.
