BASEMENT: Function / Peachlyfe / UMFANG
STUDIO: Boris / Jek

Few techno producers are as favored as Function. The longtime alias of Dave Sumner has credentials that lap almost anyone else in electronic music. From Limelight resident to Sandwell District founder, Bassiani resident, to his more recent revitalization of his Infrastructure imprint… these are just a few highlights. Equally as important is the quality of his music. His original tracks are consistently hits, balancing a paranoid, erotic underbelly with absolutely infectious hooks. His long-awaited 2012 debut album “Incubation” on Ostgut Ton was a masterclass in dark elegance, featuring instantly canonized tracks like “Psychic Warfare,” “Voiceprint'' and “Inter.” But this inflection point only served to launch him into a new chapter of creative excellence. The decade since has seen his voice become only more assured and his output continue unabated. 2021’s “Awakening From The Illusory Self” on Tresor is some of his strongest work to date. Peachlyfe returns for one last set in 2022. The Copenhagen DJ is affiliated with Fast Forward, the crew that’s been making major waves in techno, as well as Ezy’s Endurance raves. Slamming, coursing and unapologetically queer, Peachlyfe is vital new voice in the electronic music landscape, in their own words “sowing the dismantlement of the ‘cistem.’” UMFANG opens the night. The NY mainstay has been one of the most important voices shaping the community over the last ten years. Her vinyl-heavy sets lean into the kind of brutalist loop techno that defined the genre in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, delivered with an uncompromising vision that stands apart.

Boris’ roots go way back. The self-described “multifunctional weapon” was schooled by Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage in the 80s, and his career trajectory has been consistently in perfect step with the evolution of electronic music. He was one of Berghain’s first residents and has contributed standout tracks to Ostgut Ton over many years. His sound is consistently thrilling: grainy, mercurial and evocative, with textures as sharp as glass, dark as oil and richly textured as fine walnut. A headlining set at STUDIO should give him plenty of room to showcase his chops. NY’s Jek has been a favorite for his immaculately curated sound: rolling, breaks-laden house, viscous techno, and a breezy but heavy psychedelia. A recent Juanita’s mix is a standout, a non-stop glide through some of dance music’s most essential and hypnotic zones.
